Mexican Folk Dance
by Maria Luisa Colmenarez
The offering for 2003 will focus on the folk dances
of Mexico's northern state of Chihuahua. The class is appropriate for
ages 10+, novice as well as experienced dancers seeking to expand their
repertoire and educators researching dance material for their classroom.
Class
will include a brief warm-up and introduction to basic footwork before
leaping right into variations of the chotis, redova and time permitting,
a polka. Bring your best two feet, drinking water and a notebook for
an hour of folklorico fun.
Maria Luisa Colmenarez is the president of the statewide folklorico
non-profit, Festival Danzantes Unidos, artistic director for Alegria
