Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment
Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment is a Bay Area based quintet
that performs original and Eastern European traditional music
(klezmer and Balkan mostly), often in quite untraditional ways, with
new arrangements and an improvising/experimental bent. We are
an acoustic band with a big sound, backed by drums.

The word "Zoyres" comes from
the Yiddish word "zoyers" meaning
"sours" or soured vegetables (such as pickles and sauerkraut); food
common to Eastern Europe. These foods not only cross borders,
but
represent organic change, ferment - somewhat akin to Zoyres'
music,
which has also made its way across borders, although transformed
through the filter of the band's music's klezmer and Balkan roots are
still recognizable, but so is the transformation into something new (
much in the same way that a pickled cucumber is visually
recognizable as a cucumber, but is quite different to the taste buds).
