Finnish
by Anja Miller
Traditional Finnish dances vary from the Scandinavian
'gammaldans' type for couples to set dances called quadrilles, often
done in spirited
Karelian (Eastern Finnish) style.
The class will cover some basics: the Swede-Finn
Mixer, the Spinning Waltz, and the Finnish variant of the mazurka.
If time permits, there
will be an opportunity to learn the way the tango is done in Finland.
The teachers will be Anja Miller and Bob
Fraley.
Ruth Anne Fraley will provide live music on her accordion. Anja, a
native of Finland,
has been active in the Bay Area Scandinavian dance community for many
years. She has organized several tours of visiting folk dance and music
groups from Finland.
