Old-Time Fiddle Jam in Cross-Tuned A
Carol
Denney
Tune your fiddle AEAE (ahead of time)
and let’s jam on
fiddle tunes in a whole new old way.
Many fiddle traditions (even classical) include tuning the violin
in a chord, so that sympathetic open strings resonate with the string
being played. Old-time music is full of tunes built on this rich tradition,
many of which you may already know. Other instruments welcome to jam
on old-time cross-tuned repertoire. Be sure to tune your instrument
ahead of time or outside the workshop room, so that we have time to
swap tunes and play.

the East Bay Express 2002 readers' poll. Denney was part of Free
Radio Berkeley's original clandestine crew, is the creator and
editor of
the
satirical newspaper, "The Pepper Spray Times", and is
a regular performer at the Freight and Salvage, Laborfest events,
and, of course,
picket lines and demonstrations.
