Songs of Women's Work and Protest
Estelle Freedman
From slave lullabies to the blues to feminist anthems,
this participatory workshop teaches folk songs to illustrate themes in
the history of women in the U.S., with a focus on labor and politics
in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Estelle Freedman teaches women's
history and feminist studies at Stanford University and is a long time
member of the S.F. Folk Club. Estelle is
also a folk-influenced singer songwriter who recently released a CD,
Someday Has Come, which blends melodious guitar and carefully crafted
personal
tales to celebrate life transitions and recount love, loss, and renewal.
