The Little Red Songbook
Marcus DuskinThe purpose of the workshop is to learn and swap songs from "The Little Red Songbook" published by the IWW (Industrial Workers of the World). The main source of material with be the 36th Edition, but we will look at other editions plus other sources of "Wobbly" songs. I'm mostly interested in sharing the songs but we'll also talk about the origins of the songs and their composers. I am very interested in discovering the cultural connections between anarchism and communism, two movements who have historically been bitter enemies.
Participants are encouraged to lead the group in favorite songs from the LRSB - I certainly don't know all of them! Please e-mail me if you would like a list of songs in advance.
Marcus Duskin is a singer and collector of protest songs. He is the founder of the band Folk This!, now in its ninth year.
