Klezkidz
Klezkidz is a working band of young people who perform
traditional music. Formed in 1993, the band’s primary
focus is learning and performing klezmer music, the lively and soulful
music brought to this
country in the early 1900’s by the Jewish immigrants of
Eastern Europe.
The band is made up of high school students, all accomplished musicians
playing flute, piano, saxophone and violin. The band has performed
at festivals, community centers, bar and bat mitzvahs, convalescent
homes, concerts and parties throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Director, Carol Ginsburg, is a founding member of Ellis
Island Old World Folk Band, and has over thirty years experience directing, playing
and teaching numerous traditional ensembles. Through Klezkidz this
music is being passed on to the next generation of musicians who will
keep the music alive for everyone to play and enjoy.
