Go Van Gogh
Let there be accordions! And mandolins! And pedal steel!
And horns! This is an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink mini-orchestra.
Heck, they might even have the kitchen sink in there somewhere. If I
had to pinpoint the sound, I’d say somewhere in the vicinity of
klezmer, make a right at Balkans, and a quick left at gypsy. You can
see a little Hawaiian from there, and, yes, there’s even some surf
guitar. This is one of those quirky amalgams that seem to thrive in the
rich hothouse that is the Bay Area music scene. Listening to these engaging
instrumentals, I’m reminded of the movies of Emir Kusturica, with
gypsy weddings, car chases across the countryside, and that sort of thing.
The arrangements practically burst with creativity and rollicking musicality.
