Kally Price and the Old Time Blues Band
Kally was born in Arizona, raised in North Carolina,
and now resides in Oakland. Somewhere along the way, she learned to sing
like Billie Holiday. No easy feat that. Only these aren’t jazz
torch songs. This is the folksy blues strut of Memphis Minnie and Big
Bill Broonzy. These songs are pre-World War II vintage. A few classics
and a few that will make you scratch your head and wonder where the heck
they come from. It’s plain amazing how dead-on these youngsters
are in capturing this long lost sound. This is rent party, barrelhouse,
New Orleans shimmy, and even cowpoke, all dolled-up and ready for the
back porch or the backyard barbeque. Mmmm mmm. Makes me hungry for that
good, down-home home cooking.
