History of the Industrial Revolution in Song
Bev & Jerry Praver
In this workshop, Bev & Jerry Praver
will trace the history of the industrial revolution using songs to illustrate
the points. They'll
talk about how it began, working conditions, wages, child labor, unions,
automation, and foreign competition and will weigh the pros and cons
of the industrial revolution. They even have some artifacts and pictures
they can share as well as a very neat poem about the Triangle Shirtwaist
Factory fire.
Bev & Jerry are now retired but were full-time
musicians for 20 years presenting music programs in schools throughout
California, Arizona,
New Mexico and Texas. They also did Elderhostel programs and, in the
summer, did more than 300 folk music programs at the National Historic
Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Baker City, Oregon. They play about
fifteen instruments between them and often sing unaccompanied.
