Making Music From Junk
Presented by members of the California Jug Band Association – www.jugfest.org

One of the great joys of jug band music is finding out that it’s possible to make fun music out of totally unexpected things. The infamous Mound City Blue Blowers (1924) used whiskbrooms on empty luggage for a unique percussion sound. Mic Conway’s National Junk Band (from Australia) actually features tunes played on a kitchen sink. In this workshop we’ll explore and make music from all kinds of odds-and-ends including a garden hose, PVC pipe, and pieces of sheet metal. Of course, we’ll also cover the usual jug band washboard and tub bass, which by the end will seem normal.
