Songs of Joe Hill
Marcus Duskin
The legendary labor troubadour and martyr wrote many
songs in his short lifetime. Some of them are popular and are sung often
today (Preacher and the Slave, Casey Jones). Some are unknown or are
rarely sung (Workers of the World Awaken, Rebel Girl, Should I Ever Be
a Soldier). This workshop will cover as many Joe Hill songs as are known
and that we can sing in one hour's time! Workshop participants are invited
to contribute.
Marcus Duskin is the founder of Folk This!, an ensemble
whose repertoire covers the spectrum of radical protest songs. Three
years ago he founded
the Indelible Voices Project, whose focus is to revive little known
works of importance, most notable the labor musical review Pins and Needles.
