Estelle Freedman

Music 4 - Room #219

In this participatory workshop, historian Estelle Freedman will lead, teach, and explain how folk songs reveal the history of women's lives in the United States from the late eighteenth to the early twentieth centuries, with a focus on love and labor. Learn the meaning behind some familiar, and some not so familiar, songs sung by or about women in the past, as you sing along.

Estelle Freedman teaches women's history and feminist studies at Stanford University and is a long time member of the S.F. Folk Music Club. She has presented historical folk music workshops at the Free Folk Festival for almost two decades. Her recent CD of original songs, "Someday Has Come," is available on www.cdbaby.com.
