International Folk Dances

Dance 3 -- The South Gym

The Folk Dance Team at CCSF develops repertory from courses in International & European Folk Dance and stages pieces in the Folk Dance Production class, currently directed by Marguerite Fishman. Team members will teach 6-8 dances that will be repeated to live music by Vecernica at the evening dance.

The Repertoire now includes suites & dances from: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Finland, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Taiwan, Turkey, USA- Appalachian & Vintage, Tibet, Mongolia and the former Soviet Republics-Ukraine, Georgia, Russia, & Turkmenistan. New this year are English Country Dances. Three to four suites are developed each semester.

The team appears in 4-6 on and off campus events each semester, including a full concert each Spring. Past Performance Highlights include: the 2006 Chinese New Year's Parade, SF Kolo Festival, City Hall Rotunda, Palo Alto Black & White Ball Benefit, 49er Halftime, SF Carnival Parade (2nd Place Award for Costume), Slavonic (now Croatian) Cultural Center -Poklada Festival, SF Free Folk Festival Main Stage, as well as many Folk Dance Federation festivals, senior centers, schools & community events.
