Mountain Dojo is a new San Francisco based old timey, bluegrass duo featuring Toshio Hirano and Dave Berry who both come from the school of mountain music. Toshio, originally from Tokyo, plays guitar and is known for his live shows interpreting country standards by Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and the Carter Family. He has performed at major venues in the area including Amnesia, the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and Great American Music Hall.
Dave grew up in bluegrass country in the Ohio River valley foothills of the Appalachia Mountains. After years of being an acoustic singer songwriter in local cafes and street festivals, he now enjoys playing mandolin and singing mountain songs.
Their energetic and soulful shows are crowd pleasers incorporating a mix of classic country and bluesy songs from the golden era of 1920-1949 featuring guitar, mandolin and vocal harmonies. They have played together at many local venues including Amnesia, Lucky Horse Shoe Dolores Park Cafe, Cafe Du Nord, Ireland's 32, Atlas Cafe, Precita Park Cafe, Dell'Uva and the Rite Spot.
