Lead Belly Stage - Room #333
Old Belle began in the Outer Richmond with a few glasses of wine, a pencil & paper, and our honorary member Katze whining at our feet. Drawing upon our childhoods in the mountains and the wilds of Bakersfield, Ashley and Tonya successfully crafted the first few songs, dropped in a few simple chords, and knew we had found a home.
Fast forward a few months, a few hundred dollars in instrument upgrades, and we find ourselves joined by Will and his clawhammer banjo. Hailing from Maryland, Will brings with him a love of true folk music that weaves throughout his songs and banjo stylings.
Wanting something "deeper" for our band, we posted another ad on good-old Craigslist and found Mike, our upright bass player. We're very glad to have him, and glad he puts up with lugging that bass up four flights of stairs to practice every week! Mike is a musician through and through, and lays down a solid bass backbone.
Add to these two Ashley on the mandolin and Tonya on guitar and vocals and you get Old Belle. We think of our sound as a sweet, smooth mix of country and folk, although we enjoy testing the musical waters of country-swing and old-time jazz.
