The Circle of 5ths Demystified
Saturday, June 8, 2013, 4:00pm
Music 2 - Room #108
Starting from the common childhood chant, "Shave and a haircut, two bits!" workshop presenter Dan Scanlan explores the origin of the circle of fifths, its function and how to use it to increase the ability to learn and write songs. Although based in theory, the workshop takes a light-hearted approach and is hands-on whenever possible, so bring your instrument.
Dan Scanlan lives on the Yuba River in Nevada City CA and can be found in cyberspace at www.coolhanduke.com. A ukulele performer since 1961 he currently performs solo, leads the quartet Cool Hand Uke and the Enablers, and directs the 30-member Strum Bums Ukulele Orchestra in Grass Valley CA. He recently released his newest CD, "Ah, Rajao", performed solo on the instrument that is the forerunner of the ukulele.
