Clawhammer Guitar Total Immersion
Saturday, June 8, 2013, 4:00pm
Music 3 - Room #212
Clawhammer is an old time banjo technique that creates an amazing groove with very little effort. Guitar players seem not to have noticed how well it also works on the guitar. Steve Baughman hopes to remedy that. In this workshop we will learn the basic bum-ditty pattern and then get to work applying it to a tune.
All are welcome to observe, but the hands-on drilling in the workshop is for intermediate and advanced guitar players. Participants will benefit greatly from checking out "Wasilla Weed Steve Baughman" on YouTube. This is Steve's free beginning guitar lesson. If you spend some time with that before the workshop, you can hit the ground running. Bring guitars and be prepared to sweat and smile.
Steve Baughman is known for his melodic fingerstyle guitar, drawing upon Celtic, Appalachian, and various ethnic and folk traditions and on the Digital Dream Door list of the 100 best guitarists in the world. He is also the founder of In Harmony's Way. Steve is a pioneer of the unique clawhammer guitar technique, playing old time fiddle tunes on guitar with an infectious groove and rhythm. In addition, he is also a fine vocalist, composer, and a dynamite clawhammer banjo player.
