Autoharp: All the Basics

Start playing the autoharp right away. This workshop will cover tuning, basic rhythm strums for accompaniment, and tips on maintenance of your instrument. Bring any autoharp in good playable condition, an autoharp tuning wrench, a chromatic electronic tuner, a flatpick, a thumbpick, and two well-fitting fingerpicks. The autoharp - lots of strings, and even more possibilities!

Tina Louise Barr is a virtuoso performer of the autoharp, a multi-stringed American instrument. From the central valley of California, Tina Louise is acclaimed for her concise melody-picking and dynamic performances. Her amazing versatility on the autoharp has won recognition in her field. Tina received an invitation by Bryan Bowers and Ron Wall and was flown out to Nashville to record her signature styles on the Autoharp Legacy anthology CD. She has been featured in radio and television interviews, including a live performance in 2013 promoting SFFFF on KALW FM in San Francisco. She performs solo and also with her band Hot Wire, and has been featured as a guest artist with numerous groups including the Black Irish Band, the Brookdale Bluegrass Band, as well as with country artist Michael Martin Murphey. She has performed on the KKUP FM Folk and Bluegrass yearly pledge drive for over ten years. Tina Louise Barr has been a featured performer at numerous music festivals, including the Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering in Pennsylvania, the Willamette Valley Autoharp Gathering in Oregon, the Glendale Folk & Heritage Festival in Arizona, and the CTMS Festival in southern CA. She has placed in top awards in the International Autoharp Championship, and has served as a judge in a wide variety of music competitions. Tina is a recipient of the Modesto Area Music Association (MAMA) Award. Tina Louise Barr is a charter staff member of the California Autoharp Gathering, and she is a recipient of the California Autoharp Gathering Lifetime Achievement Award.
