Hello, Bye Bye Blues (Ukulele)
Dan Scanlan
Sunday, June 22, 2014, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Music 1 - Room #102

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LAST-MINUTE DIFFICULTIES ON THE PART OF THE WORKSHOP LEADER. SO SORRY.

In this workshop, Scanlan uses traditional blues in the key of Bb and the Tin Pan Alley tune, Bye Bye Blues, also in Bb, to teach strumming, picking and muffling techniques on the ukulele. Players will also venture up the neck to break out of first position chords.

Dan "Cool Hand Uke" Scanlan has 52 years of experience playing the ukulele and studying its history and has used it to teach music for the past two decades. Utah Phillips once introduced him at a folk festival saying, "Dan Scanlan has more talent in his little finger than he has in the whole rest of his body." In 1998 he helped orchestrate the Father and Son Reunion: The Braguinha Meets the Ukulele, in which he and two other American players returned the ukulele to its ancestral home, Madeira Island. The project culminated with a concert by the resultant Reunion Band of three Americans and four Madeirans at the Lisbon, Portugal, World's Fair.
