Honky-Tonk Heroes and Angels
Sunday, June 22, 2014, 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Music 2 - Room #108
More of a song-swap than a jam, with a few mini-sets by special guests. Come ready to sing and play a favorite honky-tonk number, or come just to listen.
Some of the heroes: Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Harlan Howard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens. And on the side of the angels: Kitty Wells, Rose Maddox, Wanda Jackson, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn. That's just for starters! We'll do what we can in 60 minutes. Get ready for an hour's worth of songs about drinking, fighting, gambling, foolin' around, divorce, truck driving, and prison!
Beth Berkelhammer hails from suburban New Jersey (not Texas or Bakersfield) and abhors smoky barrooms, but she's been singing classic country songs since her teens. She's besotted with the Buck Owens-Don Rich sound and may be San Francisco's most fanatical fan of under-appreciated honky-tonk great Gary Stewart.
