Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, as Simon & Garfunkel, the most successful folk-rock duo of the 1960s, made folk-rock a serious art form over the course of 6 years (1964-1970). Although they started as part of the folk revival in the early 60s, they continued on to inhabit the more polished end of the folk-rock spectrum, recording a series of superbly crafted songs featuring Paul's exceptional songwriting, beautiful harmonies, and ringing acoustic and electric guitars. Although some feel that Paul Simon didn't truly blossom as a singer and songwriter until he began his solo career in the 1970s, the best of Simon & Garfunkel's songs stand among his most pertinent and influential accomplishments.

Don Murdoch (a long-time SFFMC member) has loved the songs of Simon and Garfunkel since they first entered our culture back in the 60s, and was inspired by and learned Paul Simon's folk fingerpicking style. As a singer, Marlene McCall (an SFFMC member for almost 10 years and one of the directors of the SFFFF) was attracted to their melodies, the lyrics, and the vocal harmonies. Don and Marlene have enjoyed singing Simon and Garfunkel songs together at folk club campouts and other events.
