Traditional Songs of Death
Sunday, June 22, 2014, 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Music 4 - Room #330
Traditional songs are Arlene's passion. These are songs whose authorship is generally unknown, and they were probably written or written down over a hundred years ago. In this workshop, share songs that are about death in some form or other -- ghost songs, departing songs, grief songs, executions, murder, etc. Going around the circle, each person, time permitting, will have the option of singing, requesting or passing. It's preferred that attendees sing songs they know and that they've practiced; if you need to refer to words, that's OK, but try to make it yours. Songs with choruses are extra bonuses.
Arlene has been singing all her life. Some of her biggest influences are Faith Petric, Michael Cooney, Pete Seeger, Sheila Kaye Adams, Jean Ritchie, the Copper Family and thousands of others who have passed the songs down from parent to child, knee to knee.
