Square Dance
by Jim Saxe

Traditional square dance is:

  • A dance form based on a fairly small number of easy-to-learn
figures that can be put together in countless ways to provide
    decades of enjoyment.
  • An amusement park ride that eight (usually) dancers make for
themselves and each other, powered by the musical energy of a
    live band.
  • Friendship set to music.

In this session, caller Jim Saxe will introduce the basic moves and lead a series of dances chosen for the enjoyment of beginners and old hands alike. Music will be provided by Kathrine Gardner on fiddle, Mark Kartman on guitar, and David Brown on banjo.
