The Johnny Starlings
Here is a group dedicated to the art of producing classy
bouncy songs that bear no resemblance whatsoever to the song styles of
today. These songs are so charming and guileless that, if they were human,
you’d want to pinch their cheeks and ruffle their hair. If you
take the song styles of the 30s and 40s and meld them with the gentle
melodic 60s song-craft of Jimmy Webb or Burt Bacharach, maybe you’d
be close to their sound. That still doesn’t explain their occasional
folk anthems, such as When My Peace Be Made. Here is a peace anthem worthy
of Peter, Paul, and Mary at their lovely, melodic best. The songs are
tender and sweet, wrapped in gentle harmonies and skillful arrangements.
And did I mention the ukulele and clarinet? Not easy to categorize but
quite soothing to the ears and spirit.
