Kids Junk Band
Miss Juli
Wanna make your own great
noisy instrument and sing and frolic with others even though it may
annoy the "serious" musicians?
This is the workshop for you!!
Part 1. Instrument construction:
We will be making rattle
drums (filled containers), Kazoos (from PVC pipe and waxed paper),
and "string" instruments
(rubber bands and boxes). (Your own drums, rattles etc. are welcome
to be used as
well when we do the playing part of the workshop)
Part 2. Playing and singing with our instruments:
We will be playing "All God's Critters" and other jug band
favorites with our "junk" instruments. We will be joined
by Mugg Muggles on the gut bucket (washtub bass) for this part of our
session!
Please bring: Your own
cardboard box, preferably a very sturdy one smaller than a shoe box
for our "string instrument" and
a container like an round oatmeal box or some form of lidded container
to make into a drum/rattle.
A length of PVC pipe and waxed paper will be provided for all participants.
You are assured of being able to make all three instruments if you
bring your own materials. Please bring extra if you can for those who
may not be able to do so. Also, parents, if you would like to play
a jug, please bring an empty glass gallon jug. Apple juice and other
liquid containers with narrow tops work the best.
